It is at this time of year that the team at sounddelivery usually start to announce details for Being the Story, our immersive storytelling event which takes place in the Autumn. Today I have to share the news that we’re taking a pause on the event this year.
We did it! Together we’ve raised as of today just over £11,022. The final amount after crowdfunding fees will be around £10,700 which is fantastic. This is the first time we’ve ever led a crowdfunder and I’ve learnt a huge amount in the process (perhaps a blog for another time). We had a really ambitious goal which was revised to £30,000. But we opted not to do an all or nothing crowdfunding campaign and instead work with the donations received. We know that the funding to date can make a real impact already. It will mean that there are things that we wanted to do that can’t be funded but I’m only looking ahead at what support can be offered.
We’re crowdfunding a spokespersons network led by people with direct experience of some of our big social issues. Participants will have access to a range of training workshops, mentoring and media opportunities which we believe will raise their profile and ensure that they become the go-to people for comment on the issues they have experience of. We have fantastic and supportive media contacts who want to share their skills and professional expertise with our cohort. We believe that mentors will be key to breaking down barriers, demystifying the media and in the long term building collaborations for future programmes.

At this year’s Social Media Exchange (#SMEX19) we were thrilled to welcome BAFTA-nominated producer, curator and storyteller Elhum Shakerifar as our keynote speaker.
