Sue Beere is Survivor Advocate at APPEAL, a charity and law practice dedicated to fighting miscarriages of justice and demanding reform. This blog tells the story of the day her husband Jon was arrested for a crime he did not commit.
Jon was one of five men who were sentenced to a total of 104 years’ imprisonment in 2011, despite maintaining their innocence of conspiracy to import Class A drugs. The case is known as the Freshwater Five.
Jon has now been released from prison after 12 years but their journey of a wrongful conviction continues. APPEAL took Jon’s case on and helped gather evidence showing his innocence.
