A giant shoebox in Windrush Square, London is inviting people to walk a mile in the shoes of storytellers during the 1981 uprisings sparked by racism. Created by the Empathy Museum led by Clare Patey form the Sounddelivery Media Spokesperson Network Alumni, the exhibition runs until April 27th.

Jenny is a domestic worker born in the Philippines. She worked in the government sector but the salary was not enough to feed her family. She ventured abroad to work for her family’s future. She participated in the Future Voice training programme we ran in partnership with the Voice of Domestic Workers to develop skills and confidence as an advocate for the rights of migrant domestic workers and public spokesperson. Campaign group Joint Enterprise Not Guilty by Association (JENGbA), co-founded by Jan Cunliffe from our Spokesperson Network and Gloria Morrison, took legal action against the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Research suggests people of colour, particularly Black boys and young men, are disproportionately targeted by Joint Enterprise but the CPS doesn’t record this data. The CPS now agree to trial monitoring data on those prosecuted under controversial joint enterprise doctrine after a legal challenge from campaigners.
