Right now, listening feels more important than ever. Listening to people’s experiences, listening to solutions. Listening has always been core to our work, working alongside people with important stories to tell to feel confident and able to tell them in their own ways and in their own words.
Our Being the Story podcast offers a chance to stop and listen to new voices.
This podcast series aims to inspire new ideas, challenge perceptions and stimulate conversation on the big issues facing society today. Recorded in front of a live audience at different events we have organised, it features thought-provoking talks given by individuals who’ve faced life-changing experiences and are using their experiences to come up with solutions for change.
Series three launches this Friday. Over the coming weeks you’ll hear talk from Mental Health campaigner and Author Jonny Benjamin, BAFTA-nominated Director Dan Dewsbury, Beats Bus Founders Steve Arnott and Dave Okwesia, Comfrey Project volunteer Belmira and Peter Mitchell, Chief Executive of Newcastle-based charity, the Road to Recovery Trust.
Our first episode features a talk given by Jonny Benjamin, author, filmmaker and mental health advocate.
Peter Mitchell, a former journalist and television executive, has been in recovery from alcoholism for 10 years and is a campaigner against the stigma faced by people suffering from addiction. He believes addicts and alcoholics face many barriers to recovery but one of the hardest to overcome is the image of the disease itself.
These are stories that too often go unheard. Support the power of firsthand storytelling by listening and subscribing to the podcast, sharing it with your networks and joining in the conversation using the hashtag #BeingtheStory
