After being forced to flee Afghanistan in 2023, he arrived in the UK and experienced first-hand the challenges of leaving everything behind and rebuilding a new life. This lived experience now shapes his commitment to supporting refugees who struggle with cultural adjustment, feelings of exclusion, and the difficulty of having their qualifications recognised in Britain.
Said previously served as a university professor for 16 years, including at the American University of Afghanistan, and has published textbooks as well as numerous national and international articles, including the international publication “Women’s Social and Political Rights in Afghanistan: A Historical Review from 2002 to 2020.
He also led the International Desk of Eqtedar-e- Melli weekly and worked with the British Council’s Active Citizens programme. Now based in Hull, he works as a Partnership Officer at Welcome House, developing programmes that promote effective integration. His aim in this role is to raise public awareness of the barriers refugees face and to be a voice for those in similar situations.
“Being selected for the Spokesperson Leadership Programme is more than an opportunity; it is a responsibility. I hope to amplify the voices that are too often unheard and bring forward the stories the world needs to listen to."
