How can we amplify the unheard voices of the Coronavirus Pandemic?

At sounddelivery it’s our mission to champion stories that need to be told, stories that challenge prejudice and disadvantage, and have the power to change the world around us. The Coronavirus Pandemic has showed how important people on the frontline are, the people who support our communities, and support the most vulnerable. The outbreak of the coronavirus and the uncertainty that it is bringing with it means we need to listen. We want to give a platform to the voices that may go unheard during this time, those with firsthand experience of the big social issues facing the UK.

To our scientists, our government and the experts. But we also need to make sure we’re hearing from and listening to those at the frontline who may have solutions. We want to give a platform to the voices that may go unheard during this time, those with firsthand experience of the big social issues facing the UK.

Tortoise Digital Thinkin – Coronavirus: the unheard stories

We’ve partnered with Tortoise Media on a series of Digital ThinkIns on Coronavirus: the unheard stories. Tortoise Media is a news organisation and platform that launched a year ago. They host events, called ThinkIns, in which they bring people together to debate the latest thing in the news in the Tortoise newsroom.  Our first Thinkin brought 150+ people to hear about experiences of homelessness, eviction, sex workers, migrant domestic workers, those in recovery from addiction, kinship carers and more. Watch it here. We’ll be partnering on our second Thinkin on Wednesday 15 April. We’d love for as many of our network to get involved as possible, so if you’d like to come to listen or to share your thoughts or solutions, register here.  We hope to be able to continue to facilitate these conversations, so if there is a viewpoint you don’t think is being represented, get in touch.

Writing for our sounddelivery blog

Through our sounddelivery blog we write and share guest blogs to spark ideas and conversations on the big issues facing us today.   At this time we want to use our blog to share the different experiences people in our networks and perhaps those new to our work at sounddelivery are having, the challenges but also the solutions.

Lady Unchained, who is part of our Spokesperson Network wrote this piece last week on Coronavirus Lockdown Vs Prison Lockdown. She highlighted how the language around Coronavirus measures like – lockdown- have been triggering, taking her back to her experience in prison but also what’s getting her through this. It’s an experience we haven’t heard in the media, but the blog has resonated with a lot of people online.

If you are interested in writing a blog on how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting you or your community, and the solutions you’ve found, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch, we’re always happy to think through ideas with you. hello@sounddelivery.org.uk
