The sounddelivery office has been buzzing with all of the lovely feedback from our second Being the Story event. Thank you to all those who made it such an incredible day, we can’t wait to share the videos with you but more on that later. Next week we’ve got an exciting event announcement to make, subscribe to our monthly newsletter to hear first. Now for our storytelling highlights, we return with a bang featuring powerful stories across TV, radio and video.  So we hope you enjoy what we’ve seen, heard or read about and would like to share from the worlds of charity comms and digital storytelling. Put the kettle on, grab a pair of headphones and enjoy.

1.    Being the Story
Two weeks ago today our 12 speakers took the stage to share their experiences and how they’ve used them to create social change.
‘It was a hugely inspirational day and my head is spinning with all the ideas I’ve come away with’
Felicity Christensen, Small Charities Coalition
and lots of sentiments like this have been shared, we’ve been overwhelmed by the feedback. Check out some of our delegates’ highlights from the day, and insights shared in blogs following. We were thrilled to help connect Dom to the Guardian Healthcare Network where he was able to share his story and vision for the Patients Virtual Guide App last week- and reveal some very exciting funding news. It was amazing then to see the story picked up by BBC World Service who interviewed him this week, listen to it here. We’re getting excited to share our 2017 videos with you all, do subscribe to our YouTube channel to find out when they will be released.

2.    Louis Theroux
Louise Theroux is back with a new series of documentaries putting a spotlight on difficult issues, and issues that are often stigmatised and misunderstood. From addiction, to sex trafficking, murder and most recently Anorexia, he meets with individuals to share their own stories and experiences. Talking to Anorexia, broadcast on Sunday showed the complexities of an often misunderstood illness and the challenges faced by those who suffer from it.
What was also good to see was the response on Twitter. Charities such as the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Beat ED took to Twitter to offer support to people watching who may be affected directly or through a friend of family member. It was great to see a responsible response to the programming.

3.    Exodus: Our Journey Continues
Last night Exodus – Our Journey Continues aired on BBCTwo. You may remember the powerful documentary Exodus: Our Journey to Europe from KEO Films last year. The film followed refugees as they embarked on the perilous journey, filming themselves everywhere from crossing the border, to sinking in ships on the Mediterranean. The refugee crisis hasn’t gone away and tonight the series returns with new stories from Afghanistan, Serbia and the UK. We were honoured to have Hassan Akkad speak at our storytelling event Being the Story 2016 to share his experiences of turning the camera on himself as part of the first series. His talk has now been viewed over 14,500 times! Do try and watch it

4.    Generation Screwed
Presenter George Lamb teamed up with BBC Three to make the documentary Generation Screwed putting a spotlight on the young people whose voices have been left out of the mainstream media debate. He speaks to young people up and down the country, some feeling political apathy, feeling their towns are being left behind, and some passionate about creating the change they want to see. We think it’s so important to give a platform to more young people to share their views, and we try to do this through our work at sounddelivery.

5.    The Heist No Ones Talking About
This week Oxfam published this hard-hitting new ad to highlight the impact of tax dodging, particularly in developing countries and demand the government take action. The film created by Don’t Panic depicts a ‘global heist’ hitting the poorest the hardest, people being stripped of healthcare, saying it’s time we get people talking about it. It’s different to your average charity campaign video and it’s definitely grabbed people’s attention. Take a look.

Do keep us updated with what you think I should be finding out more about.
