Welcome to our Storytelling Highlights, this where we share what we’ve seen, heard or read about and would like to share from the worlds of charity comms and digital storytelling. The attack in Manchester this week was horrific, but it’s events like this that can unite us and really show the generosity and kindness of people, Newsbeat compiled this list of just some of the acts of kindness that we wanted to share.

1.Being the Story – 11,000 + views!
We’re thrilled to have reached over 11,000 views on our #BeingtheStory talks! Thank you to all of those that have watched and listened to these incredible stories of resilience, empowerment and social change. We’re glad these powerful talks continue to reach so many people. We’ve got new videos on the way, so do subscribe to the #BeingtheStory YouTube channel for more authentic storytelling.  And please share your highlights with your own networks.

2.Just Giving #LifeChangers
We love the #LifeChangers campaign from Just Giving, celebrating the stories of those who have used the platform to help change other people’s lives. From volunteers, to CEOs, to community fundraisers – you can nominate a life changer from your charity who you think deserve recognition for their amazing work. One of the featured stories is our friend Tracy, who came to our flagship training day the Social Media Exchange and went on to create a crowdfunding campaign raising money to support bereaved mothers with flowers on mother’s day.

3.Catching A Killer
Next week Channel 4 will broadcast Catching A Killer, a new documentary film Directed by Anna Hall at True Vision TV. Anna led a series of masterclasses at the Social Media Exchange Earlier this year. Filmed over six months, the film follows the investigation into the disappearance of Natalie Hemming, recording footage of the police, the victim’s family, and the suspect. With extraordinary access, it provides an exceptional insight into what goes on in a murder investigation. Building on her powerful documentary Behind Closed Doors this should be captivating viewing.

4.Children of alcoholics: Supporting a parent who’s trying to quit
This week Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour put a spotlight on the children of alcoholics to share a story not often told. This series discussed how children can support their parents and heard from people including Camilla who shared her story and experiences growing up with her dad being an alcoholic and the challenges she continues to feel now supporting him to receive the help he needs to recover. It’s a really honest and open conversation between a daughter and her father.

5.Communications Benchmark 2017
CharityComms have launched ‘Communications Benchmark 2017: Taking the Sector’s Temperature’ a report analysing the answers of comms professionals at 273 charities on their views, experiences and challenges in charity comms. The report shows that CEOs are valuing communications more, and hence communications teams continue to grow. In their 2008 report they didn’t even consider social media a separate answer in our questions, but it’s now seen as essential or important for 88% of respondents. Read more of the findings in the full report here.
