Welcome to our weekly Storytelling Highlights. Here we share what we’ve seen, heard or read about and would like to share with you. You know the drill, make yourself a cup of tea, grab a pair of headphones and enjoy.

With just two weeks before we break for Christmas, there’s still time to snap up a place for the Social Media Exchange on 6th February! We have a very special keynote announcement to share in the new year, subscribe to our e-newsletter to be the first to hear.

1. Big Life Fix

We absolutely LOVED The Big Life Fix with Simon Reeveon Wednesday. It brought together a group of inventors that used their expertise to provide a solution to people facing different challenges. Emma Lawton who spoke at our recent Being the Story event was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 29. The Big Life Fix aimed to help to steady her tremors so she can write again with ease. The sequences with Emma were really powerful. A clip of Emma’s segment shared by BBC has gone viral  with over 20 million views already putting a spotlight on the issue. If you missed it you can watch it again on iPlayer.

2. Giving Back

If you haven’t already take a look at Huffington Post UK’s Giving Back series. This collection of blog and videos will be celebrating those giving back to the community this festive season. Available to read already is a piece on why there was a foodbank outside Parliament on Wednesday. And they’re still looking for contributors, too if you’d like to write a piece on how you’re making a difference this Christmas.

3. Insight 2016
On Wednesday the sounddelivery team traveled up to Stoke to take part in the second annual Expert Citizens Insight Event celebrating the incredible work of the Expert Citizens and Voices of Stoke. It was a brilliant day which allowed organisations to collaborate in workshops and share ideas and challenges around multiple need services. Our very own Jude Habib was asked to host the Insight Awards which honoured those who have Welcomed, Listened to, Learnt from, Lead Others in good practice around multiple needs and an Outstanding Recognition Award. We have followed the work of Expert Citizens avidly and recently published this blog by Chair Darren Murinas on ‘Why All Trustee Boards Could Benefit from an Expert Citizen’.

4. NHS/ Amy’s Story
We love a Twitter Takeover and have been following the NHS’s @nhs for the past few months. In the last week we have seen Amy take the reigns and talk about the importance of enabling young people to play an active role in their health care. To give everyone a taster of what her takeover would involve she created this fab Twitter Moment with videos, tweets, conversation highlighting the youth perspective. We think this is a really creative way of harnessing social media to share your story and perspective.

5. Five reasons why disability matters in a crisis

Ahead of International Disability Day the UN published this piece outlining five reasons why disability matters in a crisis. Disabled individuals often find themselves excluded  and isolated from humanitarian response efforts. They are one of the most vulnerable and invisible groups during a crisis. The article features Kholoud’s story shared by Being the Story speaker photographer Giles Duley. Kholoud was shot and became paralysed and bed-bound. Giles Duley photographed her and revisited a year on and her situation and isolation had not changed he shared her story and helped her access the support she needed. At this year’s World Humanitarian Summit, the global humanitarian community launched a historic agreement to collectively do more for people with disabilities in emergencies.
