Leicester Hospitals Charity – Our Space Appeal

To support the Leicester Hospitals Charity’s Appeal for a new teenage/young people cancer ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary we were commissioned to create this video. We prepared all the interviews and then worked with an in-house cameraman. We then crafted a narrative from all the raw footage.

Leicester Hospitals Charity, with support from the Teenage Cancer Trust, and the Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust, needs to raise £1.4 million for the project to go ahead. If the money can be raised in time, work on the new unit will start in summer 2012.

Currently, children are treated in the children’s hospital. Young adults have specialist treatment in adult oncology and haematology wards and outpatients. Other treatment is spread out across different areas of the hospitals. This can be particularly difficult for teenagers and young adults both when first diagnosed and treated for cancer and if they need to make the transition from children’s to adult cancer services.

The new integrated unit will totally transform the environment in which children, teenagers and young adults are treated. The careful use of design, lighting and colour will turn an ordinary hospital ward into a space that children will find stimulating whatever their age.

Youth Engagement in Museums

sounddelivery has worked with several museums, including the Museum of London and National Portrait Gallery, to deliver digital media projects to engage new audiences. We were commissioned by the Museum of Croydon to work with young people as part of a project called I Am Here to produce audio podcasts based on exhibits in the museum. The Identity themed project involved the group of teenagers thinking about their own lives and how exhibits within the galleries related to them.

The 5 sessions we ran form part of the Stories of the World project – a cornerstone of the Cultural Olympiad – allowing local people to become ‘curators’ of the collections and objects held in museums, libraries and archives. It was fascinating seeing how eager they were and how quickly they mastered the equipment from recording to editing. The content that they produced was extremely powerful.

The finished podcasts will be made available on the Museum of Croydon website, and will be integrated into the museum’s collection in the coming months. The museum’s interactive content already stands out, but it has been great to work with them on developing it even further.

YouthNet: Lifetracks audio features

Brief

The Lifetracks website from YouthNet supports young people to make informed choices about learning, training and work. YouthNet commissioned us to produce audio features to support the editorial content on Lifetracks.

Approach

We developed a series of ‘vox pop’ style audio features, based on interviews with young people that covered a wide range of topics, including:

student loans
Education Maintenance Allowances (EMAs)
job interviews
the impact of the recession
how to put together a CV
dealing with difficult colleagues
coping with poor A level results.
