The sounddelivery team will be channelling their inner Russell Crowe at the end of July as we prepare to enter the arena for the Museum of London’s Gladiator Games.

We’ve been commissioned to support the Museum’s youth volunteers to make a short video and reportage project for the event which is taking place at London’s Guildhall Yard. Live Gladiators will be fighting to the death in front of the baying crowd (we’re assured no one will actually be hurt, and the “trained killers” are actually re-enactors!)

In the days running up to the Gladiator Games we will be teaching the young people the skills needed to capture the atmosphere and excitement of the event, as well as how to document the day through social media. They’ll be creating storyboards, planning the production and allocating teams and resources across the Guildhall site. On the day we’ll be guiding them to capture multimedia content using Flip cameras, Edirol audio kits and a bigger broadcast quality camera crew.

We had a recent meeting at the Museum with the wannabe Romans, who are part of the Britannia re-enactment society, who explained their commitment to historical fact and what inspires them to fight. They also invited two of the Junction Panel members to enrol as corpse-bearers for the day to carry the defeated gladiators away. They’ll be perfect embedded reporters! You can find out how preparations are going for the Games at the Museum of London’s blog.

The Junction Youth Panel – made up of 16-21 year olds – has been meeting regularly and running events for the past year. Part of the Museum of London’s contribution to Stories of the World: London (part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad project they have been exploring how London became the world city it is today by looking at the legacy of the Romans. All the work they have contributed to will feature in a display at the Museum of London next year.
