We’re delighted to announce that a project developed and delivered by sounddelivery for Crich Tramway Village has won the “Working with Children and Young People” award at the Derbyshire Heritage Awards.

The “Hear All About It!” audio trail project, which was funded by the Renaissance East Midlands ‘MuBu‘ scheme, involved young people creating an audio trail to guide visitors through the museum’s restored period village streets. A key part of the project was to give young people the skills and creative ability to produce the audio trail themselves. The production process included a series of intensive workshops in scriptwriting, storytelling, audio production and drama skills, which were run by Mark and Linda Kempton, the creative writer who was also involved in the project.

The young people then created a series of short audio-dramas based around different features including a stench pipe, tram shelter and a police phone box. The audio guides were made available to download from the museum’s website and are accompanied by an interactive map pinpointing their locations.

The judges were impressed by the engagement of the young people and the potential new visitors that the project would encourage, saying;

“It was an admirable project that engaged a notoriously difficult group (teenagers) and that they demonstrated genuine enthusiasm for the project. Hear all About It took a creative approach to developing interpretation of street furniture on site which will encourage people to visit.”

Listen to one of the dramas created for the trail, this one focusing on an on-street urinal.

The half-day conference aimed to spark a debate about how to communicate sensitively and appropriately about mental health. Delegates were encouraged to consider the way mental health is represented by the media and the public at large. Discussions centred on the “normalising” of mental health difficulties; the shock-tactic headlines used by newspapers where mental health is concerned; and the ways people working within the field of mental health “label” and represent themselves.

sounddelivery was asked to record interviews with panellists and speakers to create a podcast of the event, and provide separate edited interviews with key figures.

We’re putting the spotlight on how you can engage and most importantly retain corporate support for the work you do using multi-media content. This doesn’t just apply to traditional charities but also organisations including museums and the cultural and heritage sectors many of which now require corporate support.

The Family Holiday Association is a charity which is starting to provide its corporate supporters with a toolkit of multi-media content that can be used to demonstrate to people working within the company the impact their donations are making.

The toolkit includes simple photographs and video, audio case studies and audio slideshow with families who have been on funded breaks. This approach has been spearheaded by the Chief Executive who, as far as I am aware, is unique in that he actually sent himself on a podcasting workshop and has recognized the impact that these first hand stories are having. sounddelivery has been working with them for a few years to help the charity develop their use of multi media content however it is the charity themselves who’ve been working with their donors to harness this content to raise much needed funds.

“You cannot underestimate the power of audio, photography and video to build closer relationships with your corporate donors. I was at meeting with the marketing director of a large multinational company. I took out my IPhone and showed him an audio slideshow of a family who had directly benefited from funding his company had given our charity. I have no doubts that he left the meeting wanting to do much more to help more families.”
