Case Study: The Blue Cross

The Brief:    To revamp the organisation's audio ‘Petcasts’

The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for owners of domestic pets and horses. The organisation was already podcasting before it commissioned sounddelivery to make them more lively.

Delivery: sounddelivery worked closely with the website team to look at how we could engage the listener in new ways.  We opted to record at different Blue Cross centres and used frontline staff as the key interviewees and voices of the petcasts.    These were edited to approximately 6 minutes in length.  This material is sent out via the Pawprint e-newsletter which goes out to 90,000 people and on their website.

Client Comment; "We started working with sounddelivery for a fresh approach to making our podcasts, and are impressed with the results. Our podcasts are now informative and entertaining, while keeping the message of our charity work at the fore."

Smita Patel, Website and magazine assistant, The Blue Cross Communications & Fundraising Office

NSPCC

NSPCC

The brief:
To record an interview with the NSPCC’s new celebrity ambassador, Olympic boxing star Amir Khan and to create a special podcast to be made available available via the charity’s website.

In addition commissioned to develop and deliver a tailor-made new media training workshop for staff.

Client Comment: “The NSPCC needed some creative and practical guidance to do their first podcast and sounddelivery helped deliver this to the highest standard. Since then, sounddelivery has run some internal training for us and the feedback is extremely positive.”

Family Holiday Assocation

Family Holiday Association

The Brief:  To work with the Family Holiday Association to produce a range of audio case studies highlighting their work.  To be used to raise awareness as well as funding

The Family Holiday Association works to promote the quality of family life for people disadvantaged by poverty through providing and promoting access to holidays and other recreational activities.

Delivery: sounddelivery has worked with the staff at the Family Holiday Association to create a portfolio of audio content.

We have trained young FHA holidaymakers to record their holiday stories and have turned their material into audio diaries and case studies for the FHA website. We have spent time recording families on holiday.  sounddelivery has also recorded key partner events.

Client Comment: “The Family Holiday Association has been working with sounddelivery on several audio projects and we are delighted with the results. It is important that families are put at ease in order to create compelling content and impact and sounddelivery has done just that.  They are great to work with; they are professional; they provide ideas and they deliver.”

Wandsworth Community Empowerment Network

WCEN

The Brief: Wandsworth Community Empowerment Network (WCEN) aims to bring together the range of community and voluntary sector organisations in Wandsworth and support their involvement in local decision-making. sounddelivery has worked with them to produce a series of short features as part of a recent campaign against gun and knife crime entitled ‘There is an Alternative’. This has included an audio feature of a landmark peace concert held recently at Battersea Arts Centre in south London.

sounddelivery also ran an audio training workshop for single mothers allowing them to tell their stories in their own way and in their own words.

Client Comment: “We needed to explore new ways of reaching out to the diverse communities within Wandsworth. sounddelivery talked us through the potential of new media, advised us on the equipment we needed and worked with us on putting together a programme of work. We now feel confident of working towards becoming a ‘cutting edge’ organisation.”

Think Kit® is a free educational resource aimed at key stage 4 students, although it can also be used for other age groups. The resource highlights the four areas of Intellectual Property (IP) using case studies of well-known individuals and organisations. It looks at IP in real-life scenarios by relating real stories about people and their journey to success.

Thames Reach

ThamesReach

The Brief:  Thames Reach, a leading charity for the homeless, sent two members of staff to a sounddelivery audio workshop. Since the training, the staff members have used their new skills to empower their service users to have a real say in how the organisation works. An audio group of five service users and staff members meet regularly to discuss important issues. Their discussions are recorded and edited, then sent to Thames Reach managers who can then develop crucial insights into the views of their service users. Thames Reach donors can also listen to these recordings through e-newsletters. The ‘audio gatherers’ have developed a voice and increased confidence.

“Jude really is interested in people on the ground telling their own story. This isn’t about creating Radio 4-style audio, this is about creating the means for user empowerment, so developing citizen media in our organisations. It is incredibly powerful.”

Val Cohn
, IT and communications service manager, Thames Reach

Media For Development

Media for Development

sounddelivery ran an excellent creative communications workshop for all of our staff so that we could come up with a strategy to publicise a new project. The day was professionally run, inclusive, smoothly facilitated and – most importantly – fun. sounddelivery's director Jude encouraged the staff to work in teams and share ideas, making sure that everyone felt comfortable contributing to the discussion. It was a day well spent and the staff team's new ideas are already having an impact.”

James Greenshields, director, Media for Development

Community Network

Community Network

“Our workshop was structured, organised, upbeat, purpose-driven. It was explained well and was directly relevant. I really enjoyed the afternoon. It got me thinking outside the normal parameters of my job. It made me realise that there could be some marketing opportunities that need to be developed for the benefit of the organisation. I acquired a fresh, less subjective take on the situation. From a managerial perspective, it was a good staff bonding exercise. We do not often get the chance to down tools and step back from the work we do in order to develop strategies.”

Julian Beckedahl, operations manager, Community Network

Afruca

Africans Unite Against Child Abuse (Afruca) is a leading charity tackling cruelty against African children. It promotes the welfare of African children in the UK and works in partnership with other organisations in Africa and across Europe. sounddelivery worked with Afruca in the run-up to its conference on the The Role of Faith Organisations in Safeguarding African Children. We worked closely with the Afruca team creating a press release, set up a targeted media database and contacted relevant journalists. We worked with the team and supported them on the day of the conference. Coverage included The Voice, Times Online, BBC Online, Christian Today and a radio feature across BBC Local Radio.

“Jude worked with us collaboratively to help us get the message of the conference across. She provided a bespoke database that we continue to use and is constantly supportive of the work we do.”

Debbie Ariyo, director, Afruca
