Family Holiday Association

Apr 21st, 2009 • Category: Case studies

The Family Holiday Association provides access to holidays to disadvantaged families and raises awareness about the value of holidays – and first hand accounts of their work is a vital part of their communications strategy. We’ve undertaken a number of projects for the charity and continue to work closely with them on an ongoing basis.

Project: audio case studies

We document the work that the charity does through the production of short audio case studies recorded with families on holiday. These features give the listener a real insight into the work of the organisation. The content is added to the Family Holiday Association website but has many other uses too – the audio stories have been sent to marathon runners to use part of their fundraising efforts, they’ve been played to trustees and donors at events, and have also been featured in the media, including Guardian Unlimited and the BBC.

We all take holidays for granted. Listen to Maria and her family describing their break in Skegness:

Project: audio training for staff and beneficiaries

We’ve trained several families who have received funding from the charity to record their holiday experiences. We’ve also trained the chief executive and other members of staff to record stories. The recorded material has been turned into audio diaries and case studies which showcase the charity’s work and support their fundraising efforts. The content has been used in funding bids, played at the AGM and featured in the charity’s annual review.

Project: annual review

We produced an audio CD to accompany the Family Holiday Association’s 2007 annual review. We worked with existing audio features that we’d built up over the previous two years, recorded new material and re-cut some existing interviews. The CD provided a valuable supporting resource for the annual review and gave people the opportunity to engage with the charity in a different medium.

Project: audio slideshow tribute

When the charity’s founder Patrick Laurance died in 2008, we were commissioned to produce an audio slideshow that paid tribute to his life and work. We combined material from an interview that we’d previously recorded with Patrick with fresh interviews with friends, family and charity supporters including Libby Purvis.

The audio slideshow tribute provides a lasting legacy to the role Patrick played in providing breaks to disadvantaged families. It was played at a special memorial service and at the charity’s annual general meeting.

What the Family Holiday Association says

“The Family Holiday Association has been working with sounddelivery on several audio projects and we are delighted with the results.  It is important that families are put at ease in order to create compelling content and impact and sounddelivery has done just that. They are great to work with; they are professional; they provide ideas and they deliver.”  John McDonald, Director, Family Holiday Association
