The Ministry of Defence, in partnership with YHA (Youth Hostel Association), is organising short holidays to support families who have lost a loved one in military service. Families’ Activity Breaks – also known as FAB camps are activity holidays which features activities like building rafts, abseiling, rock climbing and flying down zip wires.

The aim of the camps is to provide a safe, and nurturing atmosphere for families to deal with their grief and meet with other families who have been through a similar experience.

This summer camps are taking place in Coverack in Cornwall, Whitby in North Yorkshire, Conwy in North Wales and Cairngorm in Scotland.  The camps run from the 24^th July until the 26^th August 2010.

The pilot FAB camp took place at the YHA Youth Hostel in Coverack, Cornwall in August 2009 and sounddelivery was invited by YHA and the MOD to speak to the families taking part in the holiday. This short video captures the holiday atmosphere and highlights the real value of the FAB camp.

This appeal video has been put together for Leicester Hospitals Charity for the Lord Mayor’s Forget-Me-Not Appeal.  Over the course of a day we interviewed a number of carers on the ward as well as ward staff, doctors and nurses.  Working with a photographer we then put together this short film. Our approach is always centred on strong, emotive storytelling.  We believe that this is the most effective way of informing and educating the public about the Hospital’s needs.

The Forget-Me-Not Appeal is raising funds to create a national centre of excellence for dementia care here in Leicester Hospitals.

It will provide:

• A specially designed ward that caters for the particular needs of patients with dementia
• A secure and pleasant sensory garden to encourage patients to move freely outdoors whilst still being cared for and properly supervised
• Enhanced training and awareness of dementia for all staff in our hospitals
• Information for families, carers and care home managers to better support people living with dementia in Leicester

Every summer YHA hostels are over-run with teenagers for the annual DoIt4Real season – 6 weeks of camps across the UK.  The holidays are open to young people aged between 10 and 19 in an array of different activities including everything from quad-biking, rock climbing and surfing to video-making, caving and abseiling.  Each year YHA recruits an army of keen, energetic young people to volunteer at the camps to support the work of YHA staff.  The volunteering team at YHA wanted to create a short video to help with their recruitment process, so they asked sounddelivery for help.  We suggested giving some of the volunteers small cameras so they could capture what happens at camp and record short video-diaries about their experiences.  This video is now being used by YHA at volunteering recruitment events and promoted online.

sounddelivery has been working with London Youth, a member organisation with more than 400 youth clubs serving 75,000 young people across the capital. We were brought in to create a short film about London Youth’s work. The aim was to raise the organisation’s profile, highlight the role of youth worker training and the impact London Youth has had on young people’s lives.

We interviewed 8 young people who were taking part in the Youth Works programme – a project funded by the new youth volunteering charity V. It’s aim is to train a new generation of youth workers with a specialism in community activism. Young people who access the programme volunteer full time for 6 months in one of London Youth’s Quality Marked clubs. During this time they take their Level 1 Foundation in Youth Work, organise a community project and take part in a full programme of personal development.

This film uses content from the Youth Works interviews plus contributions from Youth Club leaders and London Youth project workers.

The neonatal unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary is about to undergo a major redevelopment, funded by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. This exciting new development will enable them to treat premature babies in better surroundings than is possible now, but there are things that they want to do that they know they cannot do without additional support. This fundraising slideshow, produced by sounddelivery, is aimed to help the Trust create the new neonatal unit the best in the country.

There have been huge advances in treatment for babies born prematurely over the last twenty years. Survival rates for premature babies have improved significantly, and the treatment now provided allows staff at the hospital to manage critically ill babies with a greater chance of success than was possible before.

The Trust wants to do much more to help parents in this situation. They want to provide better support for parents – a comfortable room where they can be on the unit, perhaps talking to other parents in the same situation, while the doctors and nurses are caring for their babies. A separate room where parents and doctors can talk in private when there is bad news. And they also want to provide bedrooms in the same building – sometimes parents have travelled long distances when their baby is admitted to the neonatal unit, and going home is not an option.

In the UK, one in every ten babies born needs neonatal treatment. In Leicester they admit more than 600 babies to the unit every year, and the number is growing. Some stay for a few days, others for weeks or even months.

The aim of this slideshow is to highlight the role of the unit to raise awareness and most importantly funds so that they can invest in new state-of-the-art cots designed for premature babies needing to undergo complex medical procedures.

The Family Holiday Association is a national charity that gives low income families a break. They provide short holidays at UK seaside locations giving families the chance to take time out from their often stressful lives and rebuild their relationships. This year they expect to help more then 1,600 families as a result of their grant-making programme. One of the charity’s corporate supporters is the train company First Great Western who provide free travel for families on their routes from Paddington to the south west. In this slideshow the Nkrumah family travel to Butlins in Minehead. This is the first time 11 year old Angel has had a holiday, and spent a week away from London.

The first FAB camp took place at the YHA Youth Hostel in Coverack, Cornwall in August 2009 and sounddelivery was invited by YHA and the MOD to speak to the families taking part in the holiday. This audio slideshow captures the holiday atmosphere and highlights the real value of the FAB camp.

This slideshow was played to high ranking MOD officials and government ministers and presented at YHA’s AGM.  Its now been confirmed that 3 FAB camps will take place next year!

Robin Hood Gardens is a council housing complex in Poplar, London designed in the late 1960s by architects Alison and Peter Smithson. The estate covers about two hectares and consists of two long blocks, one of ten storeys, the other of seven, containing 213 flats, surrounding a landscaped green area and a small hill. The estate is currently threatened with demolition by Tower Hamlets Council. In 2008 the Twentieth Century Society and Building Design magazine mounted a campaign to get Robin Hood Gardens listed as a historical landmark in order to save it from destruction. However, English Heritage did not back the proposal, with its commissioners overruling the advice of its own advisory committee.

The fight to save Robin Hood Gardens continues and the Twentieth Century Society commissioned sounddelivery to create this audio slideshow as part of their continuing campaign to save the buildings.

sounddelivery was commissioned to create an audio slideshow for the charity for dementia to profile the impact of their specialist nurses.  The presentation was played at a fundraising event which brought in 20 thousand pounds.  The slideshow is now being hosted on for dementia’s website.

sounddelivery was commissioned by the charity Community Network to produce a video to showcase their work. They set up telephone conferences to support isolated people in their homes. This video shows their work connecting carers, elderly people, women with breast cancer, and church groups.
