To support the Leicester Hospitals Charity's Appeal for a new teenage/young people cancer ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary we were commissioned to create this video. We prepared all the interviews and then worked with an in-house cameraman. We then crafted a narrative from all the raw footage.
Leicester Hospitals Charity, with support from the Teenage Cancer Trust, and the Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust, needs to raise £1.4 million for the project to go ahead. If the money can be raised in time, work on the new unit will start in summer 2012.

Currently, children are treated in the children’s hospital. Young adults have specialist treatment in adult oncology and haematology wards and outpatients. Other treatment is spread out across different areas of the hospitals. This can be particularly difficult for teenagers and young adults both when first diagnosed and treated for cancer and if they need to make the transition from children’s to adult cancer services.

The new integrated unit will totally transform the environment in which children, teenagers and young adults are treated. The careful use of design, lighting and colour will turn an ordinary hospital ward into a space that children will find stimulating whatever their age.

Caring is a subject that has always been close to our hearts and this led us to set up our charitable arm, soundinnovation.

soundinnovation’s first project, Give Us A Break, aimed to tackle the feelings of social isolation that are often experienced by people caring for an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner and to ease the burden of caring by providing a few days away from day-to-day responsibilities, as well as ongoing support over the phone and online.

At the end of June 2011 23 carers came to London for a two night break, staying at a network of Bed and Breakfasts across the capital. A host of activities were organised including a boat trip on the Thames, an open-top bus tour of London’s sights, a night out at the theatre and a trip on the London Eye.

84% of the group were full-time carers, with the remainder worrying constantly even when they are not caring. One out of three of them hadn’t had a break for at least a year and several of the carers had never had a break. All believed that a break of this kind would be “extremely beneficial” wanting to feel relaxed, released and supported.

This short slideshow brings together some of the amazing images from the project with thoughts and feelings from the carers involved.

I'm sure we've all dipped into our pockets on the flight home from a holiday and given our last few cents or dollars to the cabin crew's charity. But have you ever considered what happens to those coins or notes once you leave the plane? sounddelivery was asked to produce a short film on behalf of the Family Holiday Association to reveal how notes and coins from all over the world are collected together and “recycled” for future use.

Since 2009 donations made on Thomson Airways flights have been divided between the Family Holiday Association, the Born Free Foundation and a selection of local charities chosen by airport staff. In that time holidaymakers have donated more than £1 million!

The film is being used by the charity to update their supporters and feedback to Thomson Airways staff.

Commissioned by the Beth Johnson Foundation, London Youth were asked to create a series of workshops to find out more about young people’s views on age, ageing, and what they thought older people could offer them. Having worked with London Youth in the past they then asked us if we could help them create some audio and multi-media reports based on what the young people said.

We organised a workshop with a group of 9 young people, ranging in ages from 16 to 24. We facilitated discussions and then got the group interviewing each other about how they felt about getting older. They also went out onto the streets asking passers-by their views on age and what it means to be old. The terrifying fact was that when asked “What is Old?” the group decided this was around 30! Certainly put us in our place.

We then interviewed the young people ourselves and were able to play back some of the recordings at the end of the day.

We then spent several days pulling the audio content together, and decided on creating a series of audio montages focusing on specific areas: What it feel likes getting older, how to bridge the generation gap, what older people can offer me, etc…

This audio montages were then put together onto a CD to accompany the report at the end of the project. We also collected head-shots of the young people involved and used them to transform some of the audio they captured into this audio slideshow.

The slideshow is to be included as part of the final report, details of which can be found on the Beth Johnson Foundation website.

Families who have lost a loved one in military service are spending their summer holidays together as part of a project to support bereaved children and their remaining parent. Families' Activity Breaks - also know as FAB camps - are activity holidays run by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with YHA (Youth Hostel Association). The aim of the camps is to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere for families to deal with their grief and meet with other families who have been through a similar experience.

Families’ Activity Breaks, also known as FAB camps, are activity holidays which features activities like building rafts, abseiling, rock climbing and flying down zip wires.

The aim of the camps is to provide a safe, and nurturing atmosphere for families to deal with their grief and meet with other families who have been through a similar experience.

This summer camps are taking place in Coverack in Cornwall, Whitby in North Yorkshire, Conwy in North Wales and Cairngorm in Scotland. The camps run from the 24th July until the 26th August 2010.

The pilot FAB camp took place at the YHA Youth Hostel in Coverack, Cornwall in August 2009 and sounddelivery was invited by YHA and the MOD to speak to the families taking part in the holiday. This short video captures the holiday atmosphere and highlights the real value of the FAB camp.

Over the course of a day we interviewed a number of carers on the ward as well as ward staff, doctors and nurses. Working with a photographer we then put together this short film. Our approach is always centred on strong, emotive storytelling. We believe that this is the most effective way of informing and educating the public about the Hospital’s needs.

The Forget-Me-Not Appeal is raising funds to create a national centre of excellence for dementia care here in Leicester Hospitals.

It will provide:

A specially designed ward that caters for the particular needs of patients with dementia

A secure and pleasant sensory garden to encourage patients to move freely outdoors whilst still being cared for and properly supervised

Enhanced training and awareness of dementia for all staff in our hospitals

Information for families, carers and care home managers to better support people living with dementia in Leicester

The Charity now needs to raise £100,000 to create a new Centre of Excellence for Dementia patients in Leicester Hosptials. To donate, please visit justgiving.co.uk/forget-me-not-appeal

During the summer of 2009 YHA gave small cameras to some of their volunteers to record video diaries while at DoIt4Real camps. sounddelivery has put together a short promo film for YHA which is now being used by the volunteering team at recruitment events.

Every summer YHA hostels are over-run with teenagers for the annual DoIt4Real season – 6 weeks of camps across the UK. The holidays are open to young people aged between 10 and 19 in an array of different activities including everything from quad-biking, rock climbing and surfing to video-making, caving and abseiling. Each year YHA recruits an army of keen, energetic young people to volunteer at the camps to support the work of YHA staff. The volunteering team at YHA wanted to create a short video to help with their recruitment process, so they asked sounddelivery for help. We suggested giving some of the volunteers small cameras so they could capture what happens at camp and record short video-diaries about their experiences. This video is now being used by YHA at volunteering recruitment events and promoted online.

We were brought in to create a short film about London Youth’s work. The aim was to raise the organisation’s profile, highlight the role of youth worker training and the impact London Youth has had on young people’s lives.

We interviewed 8 young people who were taking part in the Youth Works programme – a project funded by the new youth volunteering charity V. It’s aim is to train a new generation of youth workers with a specialism in community activism. Young people who access the programme volunteer full time for 6 months in one of London Youth’s Quality Marked clubs. During this time they take their Level 1 Foundation in Youth Work, organise a community project and take part in a full programme of personal development.

This film uses content from the Youth Works interviews plus contributions from Youth Club leaders and London Youth project workers.

This exciting new development will enable them to treat premature babies in better surroundings than is possible now, but there are things that they want to do that they know they cannot do without additional support. This fundraising slideshow, produced by sounddelivery, is aimed to help the Trust create the new neonatal unit the best in the country.

There have been huge advances in treatment for babies born prematurely over the last twenty years. Survival rates for premature babies have improved significantly, and the treatment now provided allows staff at the hospital to manage critically ill babies with a greater chance of success than was possible before.

The Trust wants to do much more to help parents in this situation. They want to provide better support for parents – a comfortable room where they can be on the unit, perhaps talking to other parents in the same situation, while the doctors and nurses are caring for their babies. A separate room where parents and doctors can talk in private when there is bad news. And they also want to provide bedrooms in the same building – sometimes parents have travelled long distances when their baby is admitted to the neonatal unit, and going home is not an option.

In the UK, one in every ten babies born needs neonatal treatment. In Leicester they admit more than 600 babies to the unit every year, and the number is growing. Some stay for a few days, others for weeks or even months.

The aim of this slideshow is to highlight the role of the unit to raise awareness and most importantly funds so that they can invest in new state-of-the-art cots designed for premature babies needing to undergo complex medical procedures.
