As many of you know our mission at sounddelivery is to champion stories that need to be told and to help amplify voices of people with lived experiences of pressing social issues that might go unheard. Over the last year we’ve worked with people with experience of poverty, homelessness, survivors of domestic violence and abuse amongst many other groups who might be seen as being marginalised. Many of them are using their experiences to help others. We’ve also worked with frontline workers who are the eyes and ears of issues on the ground. We’ve developed their confidence and skills to tell their stories, and share their insights and experiences to a wider audience.
These incredible changemakers are working tirelessly to make a difference to people they advocate for, the communities they live in and to society as a whole. We want to ensure that we support them to talk about the work and the impact it is having. What we find is that they are often too busy doing the work and don’t necessarily get the opportunity to share their insights widely.
In 2016 Being the Story was born.
Being the Story www.beingthestory.org.uk is an immersive storytelling event featuring the powerful insights of extraordinary storytellers. Being the Story provides a platform for people who don’t normally have one, to share their experiences and perspective on an issue in front of a live audience which subsequently goes online. Think the social sector meets TedTalks. Many of our speakers share their stories publicly for the first time. Many have subsequently given additional talks and have featured on Channel 4 News, Huffington Post, the BBC World Service and The Guardian.
Being the Story brings together changemakers – leaders, fundraisers, campaigners, volunteers, social entrepreneurs, funders to build the skills and confidence that are needed to drive change and to tell real stories that inspire action.

An event like Being the Story cannot happen or grow without the support of like-minded organisations which share similar values and ideas around social justice and storytelling and we’re inviting partners to be part of this unique event. Our 2018 event is already being supported by Lankelly Chase and other organisations have committed to buying tickets for their staff to be part of the day.
We see Being the Story as a real movement for social change – the impact lasts beyond the day – we’ve had nearly 60,000 views of the YouTube channel (please do subscribe) and we have exciting plans for the future. I’d love to have an opportunity to share and realise that vision.
