Welcome to our storytelling highlights. It’s been a busy week at sounddelivery, we continued our storytelling workshops with homelessness charity York Road Project and captured these powerful audio clips of their experiences. We’ve also got some very exciting event news on the way, subscribe to our e-newsletter to be the first to hear. But for now, back to this week’s Storytelling Highlights, what we’ve seen, heard or read about and would like to share with you.  So put the kettle on, grab yourself a pair of headphones and enjoy.

1. The Happy List
The Independent’s Happy List supported by JustGiving is out! We love when this is published each year, as it’s an amazing opportunity to discover and celebrate individuals doing brilliant things in their communities. We’re really proud to know several people on this list who really embody the good in the world. Congratulations Onjali Rauf MakingHerstory, Nisha Kotecha, Good News Shared and everyone we know who were featured  . It’s so important to continue to celebrate the positive work going on in the sector.

2.Growing Up With Cancer
Broadcast on Monday, Growing Up with Cancer in partnership with charity Teenage Cancer Trust shares the heartening stories of a group of teens who face the battle with cancer. They shared their experiences of coping with the devastating effects of cancer and chemotherapy, facing challenges most teenagers don’t have to. It was incredible to see their resilience and the support they provide for each other. We were delighted to work the charity Children with Cancer UK last year where we recorded audio stories of two incredible individuals; Ellliott and Charlotte both of whom faced cancer as teens, you can listen here. We particularly follow Elliott’s progress and we’d love you to like his Facebook page and send him messages of support.

3.Care or Custody
We’ve always enjoyed following The Untold series on Radio 4, sharing such a diverse range of narratives on diverse subject matters. Neil McCarthy produced this week’s episode Care or Custody, where we heard from Ray, who one day finds out he’s the father of a newborn baby who has been taken into care. He shares his experiences in the care system and why this is spurring him on to fight for custody of his child to prevent them going into care.

4.Access to Justice – The Empathy Deficit
This week Legal Aid Lawyer and Being the Story speaker Sue James shared an article on Legal Voice on what she’s calling ‘The Empathy Deficit’ in social housing. She meets individuals every day who are just a few steps away from being homeless and has to stand up for these people in court to keep a roof over their family’s heads. It’s so important to share these stories as these are experiences being thrusted upon more and more people in times of austerity, and there may be more people who will need access to justice.

5.Empowering women to be safe online
Women’s Aid has teamed up with Facebook to produce a new guide to support women to be safe online. The internet has given rise to new avenues for domestic abuse and coercive control but it’s important for women to have the freedom to stay connected to others and in touch with the causes they care about. The guide shares real stories, and expert advice from Facebook and support from Women’s Aid to empower women online.
