Welcome to our Storytelling Highlights, this is where we share what we’ve seen, heard or read about and would like to share with you from the worlds of charity communications and digital storytelling. So it’s time to put the kettle on, grab a pair of headphones and enjoy.

1.Untold Story Hull

Yesterday saw the launch of An Untold Story a collection of powerful stories, poems and drawings from women who have experienced street prostitution in Hull.  We were commissioned by Lankelly Chase to support the women, through the charity the Lighthouse Project, to build their media confidence as they prepare for the book and the response to it.  We feel really privileged  to have been invited to be involved in this piece of work, listen to a clip from one of the women shared on BBC Humberside. Please make sure you follow this project and their next steps on Twitter @UntoldStoryHull #UntoldStoryHull.

2.Homeless Charity Bot

Scottish homeless charity Cyrenians has adopted a new Facebook messenger bot to help raise awareness of causes of homelessness. The bot, ‘Alex’ can break down barriers, allowing the public to ask the questions they might not feel comfortable asking in person while learning about homelessness as well as conflict in the home.

At the start of the year we asked #SMEX17 speaker Nathan Murray from the RNIB to share his 2017 social media forecast on our sounddelivery blog, he predicted the rise in use of chatbots and other digital strategies that you can find here.

3. Lets Talk About Mental Health

Listen to mental health campaigner Mark Brown @MarkOneinFour & blogger Seaneen Molloy-Vaughan @ms_molly_vog takeover radio channel BBC Ouch for ‘Let’s talk about mental health … but then what?‘ Following the recent media coverage of Prince Harry sharing his experiences of depression, the podcast looks at what happens following speaking out about mental ill-health and discusses the difficulties speaking out about lesser-understood conditions.

4.League of Young Voters

We love this video from the British Youth Council archives ‘Why Vote?’ created by The League of Young Voters highlights the importance and impact of politics and voting for young people. Despite being from 2014 it has a huge relevance today with the general election coming up in six weeks and voting amongst young people said to have a huge impact. According to the BBC on the day the general election was called, 57,987 people under 25 registered to vote – more than any other age group.

5.Unbroken

Unbroken is a new book by Madeleine Black which shares the real-life story of her journey to rebuild a life shattered by domestic violence. She says forgiveness was key, and we have followed her work with the Forgiveness Project and she is an incredible storyteller. You can find it here.
